The apparent vertical beam of light coming from the sun is a sun pillar, caused by flat hexagonal ice crystals stacked like a venetian blind in the atmosphere.

The marina is in the foreground; it was drained for a few days to allow dredging or something. Seagulls and other birds took the opportunity to dig in the mud for buried treasure.
