In this contrast-enhanced picture, the sun is directly behind the camera, and shadows from nearby clouds are converging on the point in the sky directly opposite the sun (antisolar point), causing the dark band most prominent on the left of the picture. Also visible at that point is a brighter vertical flare of light (centre of picture) caused by sunlight backscattering off ice crystals at this altitude.
